Google - Setup MFA with YubiKey
To enhance the security of our systems and protect sensitive information, a new security feature called Multifactor Authentication (MFA) will be enabled on your Google account. This guide outlines the process of setting up MFA on your Google account with a Yubikey as an authentication method.
1. Navigate to Google.com
2. Click on Sign in
Click on the Sign In button on the upper right-hand corner of the website.
3. Enter your email address
Type in your full NNPS email address in the highlighted box. Click the Next button to continue.
4. Enter your password
Type in your password in the highlighted box. Click the Next button to continue.
5. Click on the User Icon
You are now signed in. Click on the user icon on the upper right hand corner of the page to open your account settings.
6. Click on Manage your Google Account
Click on the Manage your Google Account button to access your account settings.
7. Click on Security
On the left side of the page, click on the Security button to access the security settings for your account.
8. View MFA Settings on your Google Account
Navigate to the How you Sign in to Google section on this page. Click on the Passkeys and Security Keys at the bottom of this section to begin setup.
9. Click the Use a Security Key button
10. Configure where to save the Passkey
Windows will prompt you on where to save your passkey. Select Security Key from the menu and click next.
11. Confirm Security Key Options
Verify that your email address correct within the prompt, then click Ok.
On the next Prompt, click OK to let Google see information about your YubiKey.
12. Insert the Yubikey into the USB port of your computer
Insert the Yubikey into the USB port on your computer with the Gold Y facing up. Do not force the key into your USB port, as it may damage the key or your device.
13. Enable your Key
When prompted, touch your security key. Depending on your model, Touch the button or the gold-colored edge if it is blinking.
Confirm that your passkey is saved. Click Ok.
Verify that the New Security Key has been added to your account.
