SAM Reports: An Overview
The following guide provides an overview of the SAM Database and highlights features included in the process of creating a Report.
Smartbar View
The Smartbar organizes the District data stored within SAM. Users can select School, Teacher, Grade, Classes, and Students to view a specific set of data, however, this data will vary based on your account.
Teacher accounts allow users to select data by Grade, Classes, and Students.
School Admin Accounts allow users to view data at their assigned School level, or a specific Teacher, Grade, or Class level. District Admin Accounts allow users to view a large scope of data including all District Schools, Teacher, and Grade levels, as well as Classes and Students.
Smartbar Selection
When selecting cells on the SmartBar, be sure to double click to properly select the School, Teacher, or Class name. Under the Report tab, cells will turn blue when properly selected.
Selecting Report Focus
Under the Report Tab, it is also important to verify your report's "focus". Notice how Selecting a Teacher versus a Class provides different Report options. Prior to running Reports, users should know the specific level in which the data needs to be generated. For example: if running a Report for a specific student, select Student Reports in the Show “focus” dropdown.
Please be aware that front-end PDF reports are only available in PDF file format - and cannot be manipulated or exported to a different file format.
Different Reports for Different Programs
HMH provides various data Reports for each product used. Not all Reports available in SAM are alike or available across products. Diagnostic assessments like Math Inventory and Reading Inventory will deliver different scores data-points and unique instructional recommendations based on score performance. As an example, the Instructional Planning Report is available for both Math Inventory and Reading Inventory but differentiated by Lexile and Quantile proficiency – each program Report must be run under the appropriate program grid of the Reports tab. Teachers and school administrators should run Reports recommended by their Reading Specialist or C&D Instructional Team.
